The Home Office published a new statement of changes to the Immigration Rules on 4th of March 2021, mainly in relation to the Points Based Immigration System. With these changes comes the new Graduate visa, which we will discuss briefly in this blog.

From the 1st of July 2021, international students in the UK will be eligible to apply to remain in the UK following the completion of their studies, to work or look for work for a period of two or three years, depending on the level of study they have completed.

In order to be eligible under this route the student will have to demonstrate completion of studies at an institution with a track record of compliance. The student must hold a bachelor’s degree/master’s degree or a recognised professional qualification.

Students are also required to demonstrate their residence in the UK during the duration of the course; however, exceptions will be made for distance learning between January 2020 and September 2021, owing to the pandemic.

Partners and children, who are already in the UK as dependants of the student, can also apply to remain in the UK under this route.

No sponsor or a job offer is required under this particular route. There are no minimum salary requirements either. Graduates on this route will be able to work flexibly, switch jobs and develop their career as required.

Students who began their studies in autumn 2020 have until 21st of June 2021 to enter the UK, in order to be eligible for the Graduate route. Students, who began their studies in January or February 2021, will need to be in the UK by 27th of September 2021.
