Robert is a specialist immigration lawyer providing advice to a broad range of individuals including those seeking to work, settle, study or visit the UK. He has acted for corporate immigration clients including City law firms, global financial institutions, a global sports agency and a well-known publishing house among others. He has been providing immigration advice since 2000 (and qualified as a solicitor in 2001). He is able to provide immigration advice on all aspects of UK immigration and nationality law. He has been recognised as an expert in Chambers, The Legal 500 and as a leading individual in Citywealth.

Robert sat on the Law Society’s immigration law committee for six years. He met with senior UKVI and Home Office personnel to discuss policy, implementation and operation of the various immigration routes. He represented the Law Society in the Home Office’s consultation with stakeholders on the roll out of the settled status scheme. This replaced free movement rights under the EEA regulations following the UK’s decision to leave the European Union. He has been invited to sit on several Home Office working parties including the consultative group which worked on the points based system. The scheme marked one of the largest and most complex changes to the immigration rules and Home Office policy in recent years.

Robert regularly appears as an advocate before both the First and Upper tier tribunal in immigration and asylum appeals and is considered a persuasive and effective advocate. He was one of the first practitioners to challenge Home Office decisions after the implementation of the points based system. He has also had conduct of cases in the Administrative Court and Court of Appeal.

Robert has been instructed by the High Court and by several London Boroughs and local authorities to provide advice and expert reports in family proceedings where there are associated immigration issues, usually relating to children or vulnerable adults and often with a human rights angle.

Robert provides advice and representation for those seeking asylum or humanitarian protection in the UK under UK laws and the UN Convention on Refugees and human rights legislation. Cases he has been instructed in have involved high profile politically sensitive individuals.

Robert has both written and delivered training on a wide range of immigration topics for ILPA (Immigration Law Practitioners Association), Lexis Nexis and other well-known providers. He also taught the post-graduate immigration law elective at BPP Law School whilst in private practice. He regularly produces legal updates for general publication and has, throughout his career, provided pro bono advice via various charitable organisations. As a Senior Editor at Practical Law he wrote, delivered and commissioned up-to-date content on UK immigration law for other lawyers in practice and HR advisers.

Robert is a keen skier, even seeking out glacier skiing (sometimes in shorts) during the summer. He is a member of the Savage Club, London.
