Ruth Shedlow

Ruth came to Henry Hyams to complete her training contract in 1998. Prior to joining the firm she gained extensive legal experience within the Legal Section of Leeds City Council and in particular in the Child Care Section.

Following admission as a solicitor in 1999 Ruth focused her attention on Family, Child Protection and Mental Health Law and gained Law Society panel membership on the Mental Health Review Tribunal as well as the Children Panel. She became a Partner in 2004.
Ruth is recognised within Leeds as a prominent child care solicitor. She represents both parents and children. She is always keen to conduct her own advocacy and has a wide breadth of experience in dealing with cases that involve complex and challenging issues.

Ruth has a strong understanding of how social care agencies approach their work and believes that this insight can be of benefit to her clients. She also has an interest in how children’s matters overlap with other areas of law such as crime, mental health and immigration.
During a recent career break Ruth also qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist with a focus upon working with children and young people. She also undertook a range of volunteering roles with local  organisations including a domestic violence project, schools and colleges and worked as schools counsellor in the Bramley Cluster.

Not only is Ruth a very committed member of Henry Hyams but she is also a busy working mother of two.  She is a passionate gardener, enjoys walking with her dog in the countryside and spending time with friends.
